FERO BEDNAR |
I am a hobbyist naturalist and a photographer. I was born in 1973 in Ruzomberok, Central
Slovakia. I have always been excited by the living things around me. As a teenager
I have grown orchids, carnivorous plants and other exotic plants. I have had
amphibians and reptiles, exotic insect, aquarium fish, and birds. Later, in 1995, during my
university studies, I became keen on birdwatching and ornithology and I started to photograph.
In my day job I am a chemical engineer, specialized in pulp and paper technology. For a while
I was employed at the Department of Graphic Arts and Technology at Slovak University of Technology
in Bratislava and learned a lot about DTP, publishing, and printing.
In photography, birds have always been my favorite subjects. More and more, however, I like
to explore world of macro, insect, amphibians and reptiles, plants and all other living things.
I often photograph landscapes, as well.
Sometimes I feel that I am more a documentarist than an artist. I want my images to
be both technically and artistically perfect and at the same time scientifically valuable.
I respect nature and I do everything to avoid negative side-effects of photography. I always
have in mind "take only pictures, leave only footprints", and often I am not happy even about
those footprints.
Even though I do not focus on publishing, at least not for now, my images appear
occasionally in various publications and often on the web (editors are however always welcome
to contact me). My photo credits include: WWF International, World Birdwatch, and VIREO, to name just a few.
Some people say that it doesn't matter what brand of the camera equipment you use,
and I agree, as far as you are happy with it and it gives you what you need.
I am a big fan and a user of the Canon EOS system and I am completely satisfied with it.
I believe that this is the right place to thank my wife and my love Sona, for her support and understanding.
I want also thank my best friend Martin Dobrota
for his friendship, his countless suggestions, advices, and help, without that many of
the pictures couldn't appear here. And finally I must thank all who contribute to
NatureScapes.net and Naturephotographers.net, these two nature photography web-sites are the best learning
places in the world and I visit them regularly and often.
