Baba near Korytnica
January 20, 2007; Donovaly, NP Nizke Tatry, Slovakia
I do not often photograph landscapes but when I see something dramatic like on this photo, I have to.
This photo was taken with 400 mm lens and the whole scene took only 5 or 10 minutes.
Barbastella barbastellus, Barbastelle Bat
January 14, 2007; Gaderska dolina, NP Velka Fatra, Blatnica, Slovakia
In January I decided to explore bats more deeply as my knowledge about them was minimal. I have made several trips to
see them in their wintering sites - usually caves. I was suprised that there are seldom more than 1-10 bats
per cave. Of course that there are typical wintering caves with thousands of bats but these are specially protected. Another
suprising fact for me was that these little creatures are relatively long living - this barbastella has been known to live for at
least 22 years, other species like Horseshoe Bats live more than 30 years!
Lynx lynx, Eurasian Lynx footprints
January 20, 2007; Tufna dolina, NP Velka Fatra, Harmanec, Slovakia
Lynx footprints! - we very very lucky and happy to track this big cat in a fresh snow on one day with my two friends - rangers in
The National Park Velka Fatra. It is not often that they see it.
